Did you know your Tongue is an effective Toxic Cleansing System?
Did you know your tongue MOVEMENT drains your lymphatic system of the mouth & neck helping clear toxins?
You may wonder what is a lymphatic system. Just to let you know – lymph is a clear-to-white fluid generally made up of white blood cells, especially lymphocytes, which attack bacteria in the blood. This fluid needs to be cleansed and returned to the blood stream.
So, helping drain lymph makes your tongue an effective toxin cleansing system!
But, you have to keep your tongue positioned right. Analogous to body posture the posture of the tongue also matters.
But first let’s look at how the tongue actually drains into the lymph system.
Each part of the tongue drains into different nodes:
- The tip of the tongue into the submental lymph node under the chin.
- The middle of the tongue into the submandibular node under the jawbone.
- The back, down toward the throat, into the deep cervical nodes that run down through the neck.

The most important aspect of this entire function is movement. The lymph drains via movement. Which means each of these different segments must move properly for the lymph system to flow properly. Not many people are aware about this. Also, proper movement of the tongue will enable the smooth drainage of lymph.
Did you know that the tongue has a great ability to move in all directions? Up, down, left, right, forwards, backwards? Just try these movements now and see for yourself.
All this movement is possible because of the way the muscle fibers are organized. This arrangement is truly unique in the human body. The muscle fibers run in all three directions: from front to back, from the sides to the middle and from top to bottom.
The muscle fibers run in all three directions: from front to back, from the sides to the
middle and from top to bottom. Also, the tongue is the only muscle in our body that can actively contract and extend.
What happens when we can stick our tongue out?
The vertical and horizontal fibers contract at the same time making the tongue narrower and longer. Just think about it.
Besides movement the tongue can also absorb some substances like fluid or spray put underneath the tongue, but not meant to be swallowed. This method is called sublingual administration.
Now let’s try a tongue movement exercise and help keep our lymph draining well.
- Open your mouth as wide as you can (pretend you are at the Dentist’s)
- Stick your tongue out as far as it will go but keep it straight and horizontal
- Move the tongue slowly from left to right touching each corner of the mouth
- Repeat this 10 times.
- Next place your tongue to the floor of your mouth and lift the tongue to the top behind the upper front teeth
- Repeat this 10 times.
What you have just done will clear the lymphatic system of the mouth and neck!
